Let's Paint a White Pumpkin Thursday, Sept 10 at 6:30 PM Join us for a simple, fun evening of painting! We will be painting a white pumpkin with sunflowers on a 12x16 black canvas. Using loose strokes and our basic color palette, this piece has a soft, abstract feel rather than hard lines or fine details. A Note from Laurie Even though our youngest is getting ready to leave the nest here in a few weeks, the doors of our home always seem to be opening to the sweet chaos of grandkids coming and going. Whether it's just for the day or an overnight stay, we absolutely love it. I don't think I could ever stop loving the sound of little voices echoing through the halls, cuddling babies in my arms, watching them learn and play, reading bedtime stories, and singing the exact same songs over and over again because they asked for them just one more time! They love coming to Papa and Koko’s house (I’m Koko to my grandkids!). They run straight through the front door, heading right for the toys, asking for a ride in the Ranger, or running to the big swing in the yard. Our oldest grandson will be 14 in a few months, so we’ve been blessed with this joy for quite some time now...and with more on the way, we just can't wait! Having them around always reminds me of a passage in Matthew from The Passion Translation: Jesus called a little one to his side and said to them, "Learn this well: Unless you dramatically change your way of thinking and become teachable like a child, you will never be able to enter in. Whoever continually humbles himself to become like this little child is the greatest one in heaven's kingdom realm. And if you tenderly care for this little one on my behalf, you are tenderly caring for me." ~Matthew 18:2-5 I see that teachable, humble, childlike heart so clearly whenever they step into my studio. The girls love to go in, pull out paper and markers, and of course, ask to paint. They jump right in and start making things without a single care about what anyone else thinks! They come running back, beaming with pride as they show off their creations. They aren't worried about whether it’s "perfect," if they did it "right," or how it compares to anything else. We all need to bring a little more of that childlike freedom to our easels. When you sit down to paint, try letting go of the outcome. Don't worry about what anyone else thinks, and step away from the trap of comparison. You were designed in a completely unique way, and the art you make is a reflection of that. Our world needs your unique touch...just as you are! With much love and paint!
